Should I Build an Email List?

You don't need to build a list when there are thousands of Facebook fans or followers on Twitter.

My teenager children used instant messaging or email to communicate with one another. Today, their only email is the one that they signed up for on Facebook or Twitter. They use these social networking sites almost exclusively to communicate with one another. Their cell phone is the other major communication tool K-12 email list.



Why build an email database when people are using social media sites most of the time?

1. Email is preferred by business owners

Although many business owners incorporate social media into their websites, they still use email to build customer lists and stay in touch. While not many people will save a Tweet, many will save an email.

You have no control over social media sites. All your fans and followers would be lost if Facebook or Twitter changed their rules. You can send new content or products to people who have been added to your email list. So you can have customers for life, invite people from social media to join your email list.

3. Follow up with customers

Following up with customers is more effective than first contact. You can build a customer list and automatically follow up with them by using a sequential autoresponder. This allows you to send sequential emails at predetermined times. You can build a relationship by sharing great content. This will make them more open to product recommendations.

4. You don't have to rely on any other marketing strategies

Because you have established relationships with people on your email list, a responsive email list can generate sales quicker than other methods. High rankings are not always the best way to get sales. You'll lose your top ranking if a search engine modifies their ranking formula, or your competitors outrank yours, which can lead to lost sales. Email lists are not affected by changing formulas.
